3DCP: Catalyst/ Hair Salon

I decided to apply similar design principles (from minimalist homes) to my hair salon interior. Salon's in general deal with cosmetic treatments for both women and men, whilst others provide extended services related to skin health, foot care, facial aesthetic, nail manicures and even tanning services.
I knew that the salon industry is growing and I wanted my salon to have a minimal appearance in order to reflect an image of elegance and class, therefore understood the importance of  having a monochrome colour palette and simplicity. The first step towards creating a successful outcome was creating a mood board of different hair salons which could serve as inspiration.

Target Audience

I then decided to develop a niche that targets a very specific target audience/ type of customer. This enabled me to determine what type of services my salon would provide, what to advertise, who to hire and the design of my salon. Although salons are open to people of all genders, I decided to aim it at women as they will spend the most money. In addition to young professionals (23-30) and city dwellers, due to service prices. This was an important factor as  it meant that the models I choose will be of the same gender.I also understood that my customers will have diverse interest but share one passion- beauty.

LocationThe next important decision was choosing where my salon will be located. I had to consider important factors such as pricing, exposure to the public, competition and accessibility. I knew that having it within a shopping mall would be too expensive due to high rent. Therefore, I decided that it would be located on the perimeter of Westfield, Stratford shopping mall as it would have high visibility to the community and will be part of a string of stores.

Design/Material/Colour Scheme
I decided to use adhesive mirror on the ceiling to expand the space and reflect light, enabling my salon to look brighter. This would also add a touch of glamour and elegance to my design. Whilst allowing me to create a uniwue space of my own. Whereas, for my flooring i decided to use white marble stone to create a luxurious environment. It is also strong and has an ability to accept polish, adapting to any décor. Lastly, I had to consider my wallpaper and decided that a subtle shade of cream would fit my theme of luxury. It would be easy on the eye and transform my salon into a relaxing environment.
