3DCP: Catalyst/ Minimalism

Minimalism is an Art movement which began in the 1960's. It is characterized by simplicity and the ideology that "less is more". Likewise, minimalist homes are plain, calming and liberating. They usually consist of empty spaces, flat surfaces, clean lines, focal points, simplicity, plants and restrained colour palettes.
Moodboard
This mood board is a collection of images that explore the term 'minimalism'. It was a way in which I could openly place all my ideas and experiments onto one page. It also enabled me to show others a proposed look without investing too much in a failed direction. Overall, it helped me establish all of the baselines that eventually lead into a style guide; colour pallets, shapes and layout.
John Pawson's minimalist style within home interiors was something I aimed to recreate. His style demands designers to restrain themselves from going over the top, but instead to only select essential furnishing that deliver maximum impact.
This was my initial sketch of a minimalist exterior. I decided to design a modern home with an ordered structure in order to create a simple, clean environment.  I also paid particular attention to small details such as big windows which are extremely common in minimalist homes.

This sketch explored a minimalist interior. The design shows careful selection of editing my space to get a place of clarity. It is simple in form, has uncomplicated wall finishes (with no posters or wallpapers) and a large open door in order to create a light-filled space.
