GRAPHICS: Sketches

 Freedom
My first sketch depicts a bird of freedom; which is the enemy of my chosen theme 'racism'. Within it is a variety of powerful words. I decided to use a simple black and white colour scheme to show the contrast between good and evil.
#ISMYSONNEXT?
Similar to the 'blacklivesmatter' campaign, I decided to create my own movement named 'is my son next?' referring to black mothers worrying if their innocent son is next to be murdered or abused due to their skin colour. The lettering has purposely been slanted to create a sense of confusion and to emphasise on the idea of the mother vomiting out the words, as racism can have both a psychological and physical impact on black families. I also decided that the font will be made out of newspaper articles of innocent victims, to suggest that the mothers son could be the next headline on the front cover.

BLACKLIVESMATTER
This sketch reads 'BM' meaning black matters. I used hands within the first letter to symbolise unity and the idea of coming together to fight against racism. Whereas, the 'matter' was completed in a fading font to represent the idea that as a society we don’t always stand up for what we believe but instead follow the crowd.
 The dream
Martin Luther Kings dream is exposed to my audience through the strong visual.  On the left side you see racism at its greatest ; 'lynching' which was done publicly to promote white supremacy.  Juxtapositioned, on the right side is black child swinging on the same knot rope and not being judged by the colour of her skin.
Hand of peaceThis is a representation of world peace and equality.
 Font ideas
Typography relays heavily on font and text. Therefore, I decided to create a variety of fonts as initial ideas. The last font was inpired by the '12 years a slave' period drama film. Which fitted with my theme as it follows slaves the racist era they lived in.
Donald
Donald Trump has racist ideologies which I have portrayed through the text inside him. For example his protest of building of the 'big wall' which he spent $1.6 billion creating, in order to keep the Mexicans out.
The idea of "greatly strengthening the border" . Lastly in his tie I used the word 'drugs' as he quoted that the Mexicans are only 'bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re bringing rapists".
