From my original object (plastic containers) which are predominantly used to store goods/foods I was able to create and design a shipping container café. I had a carefully thought contemporary interior. The classic black and white colour combination was matched with my white furniture (made from foam board) to create a stylish yet edgy space. Whereas, the bold wallpaper was chosen to give my café an authentic handmade look and feel. I took particular attention to the small details of my café, such as the hand made pillows for the seats, created for comfort. If this wasn't a model, my outside furniture(chairs) would have been made from poly rattan, as this fabric is manufactured specifically for outdoor use due to its weather-proof properties. The flooring would have been white laminated wood, as it creates a specious and light atmosphere. It is resistant to stains, impacts and scratches. Artificial grass would have also been added, in order to make my outdoor seating area to look beautiful and serene in all weathers. Not to mention it is eco-friendly and doesn't require much maintenance.
For my final outcome I decided to create a unique, simple and exciting light shade. Heavily influenced by symmetrical shapes and geometric patterns. Whilst incorporating the idea of repeated lines. Overall, I am pleased with my outcome and feel as though it makes a statement without destroying a carefully thought interior. Arranging my process and final outcome on two presentation sheets was an effective visual communication tool, which showed my potential client my creative process. Ensuring that my presentation was engaging with a meaning was vital ;as it needed to be powerful. After all, the quality of a presentation will often determine whether a customer buys from me or one of my competitors. Having presented my work to a group of students and a tutor I was able to receive some valuable feedback, which would enable me to push my work further and my overall customer exprience.
Following the crit and advice from the previous week , I was able to identify ways in which I could maximise my project/ research. It was highlighted from my peers that since I was designing a museum aimed at locals from the community, I should communicate directly with them via a questionnaire as this will give me an insight of what is expected and understand the needs of my target audience. I decided to listen to what my peers and tutor said and made the questionnaire. I made the decision to have only closed questions (questions with a single response) only because this will enable me to quickly hear from a larger amount of people in a shorter amount of time. Some of questions were "is an art museum necessary in the Newham Borough?" which would clarify if I should even design one, whilst others were more about preferred aesthetics such as "would you prefer a neutral colour palette or colourful colour palette?" which would allowed me to understand favoured opinio...
Architects and Interior Designers often rely on 3D modelling to aid their projects, as this enables them to push their ideas closer to reality. Its a quick process, which enables these professionals to reduce inaccuracy and give them the advantage of making any improvements or corrections. I decided to work in a similar manor and generate my ideas in 3D forms both digitally and by hand. My google sketch up (a 3D modelling computer program) model was a concept study. It was more satisfying than viewing a 2D drawing and enabled me to navigate within the space to get an understanding of how it could be used. Overall, it helped me study, visual and understand the space. Whereas, my presentation model was made from foam board. I created my design directly onto the material considering measurements and aesthetics and cut it relatively quickly with scalpel and a metal ruler. It was easy to re-model and enabled me to see the impact on the overall design when minor and major changes we...
