FMP: Week Three

Image
Following the crit and advice from the previous week , I was able to identify ways in which I could maximise my project/ research. It was highlighted from my peers that since I was designing a museum aimed at locals from the community, I should communicate directly with them via a questionnaire as this will give me an insight of what is expected and understand the needs of my target audience. I decided to listen to what my peers and tutor said and made the questionnaire. I made the decision to have only closed questions (questions with a single response) only because this will enable me to quickly hear from a larger amount of people in a shorter amount of time. Some of questions were "is an art museum necessary in the Newham Borough?" which would clarify if I should even design one, whilst others were more about preferred aesthetics such as "would you prefer a neutral colour palette or colourful colour palette?" which would allowed me to understand favoured opinio...

FMP: Week Two

Primary Photograph: Exterior of National Portrait Gallery. Alongside continuing my research I decided to visit the National Portrait Gallery and National Gallery, both located in Convent Garden as it enabled me to see notable examples of existing  architecture in London, that could serve as inspiration to my own work. Primary Photograph: Exterior of National Art Gallery. Seeing the building in the flesh provided me with access to new concepts and enabled me to expand my understanding of the structure. Overall, I found this to be useful as my aim is to create similar designs and models to the highest standard possible, that are just as functional and aesthetically pleasing to the visitors. Although the designs of the buildings were both relatively antique/historic from the 18th/19th century (neoclassical and renaissance revival architecture) it remains to hold cultural heritage today and could offer me with an understanding of the key differences between modern and histori...

FMP: Week One

Image
As a starting point for my final major project I decided to carry out some research, as this would enable me to build knowledge and equip myself with the information needed to make informed decisions when creating my final outcome. As part of my research I went to my chosen location to capture a series of photographs appropriate to my project -including the long neglected building that I am transforming and its surrounding environment. As I previously stated on my project proposal my location choice was the Rank Hovis Premier Mill , located in West Silver Town , which I plan to transform into art museum overlooking the water. Ideally this will resolve any conflict between old and new communities by bringing people together through art, whilst trying to educate children in the visual art field. Working with a real life location is a tool that architects and interior designers often use to guide their work, therefore working in a similar mannor has not only been significant but remark...

3DCP: Beyond The Fundamental/ Final

Image
I created my final outcome on google sketch-up as it was a software I had recently practiced with and felt comfortable using. I was pleased with my final outcome as I was able to find a balance between a dark and bright interior by having vibrant stools which are welcoming, against dark flooring. Overall, the material palette evokes a haunting charm with a twist of warmth. The bar itself, contrasts the rest of Ravensbourne University which could help accentuate this idea of being secluded within ultimate comfort. If I had more time I would have learnt how to use the google sketch-up 3D houseware, as it contains millions of models that can be imported into my design, to make the overall outcome look more realistic.

3DCP: Beyond The Fundamental/ Ideas

Sketches  Prior to creating my final outcome it was important to consider the basic factors such as the design, budget and colour pallet. Since I was creating a bar for teenagers,it seemed only natural to lean towards certain kinds of decorating. It was important for me to consider my target audience in order to develop a niche that targets them but also allowing me to decorate with a purpose. I started to focus on simplicity and function- wanting something that was both simple but uplifting was challenging. I decided that I wanted to use a colour scheme that was basic yet bright and welcoming ,possibly vibrant seats against dark counters, where my students will be encouraged to congregate. I then had to evaluate the needs and goals of my cafe before committing to a particular material; with each one having pros and cons. For example having furniture that is easy to wipe clean after use, leading me to want metals stools as they easily cleanable.
